Warhammer: Odyssey MMORPG for PC: Game Review & Guide
Since the teaser trailer came out in August 2019, the Warhammer: Odyssey game has been much-awaited. It is now available on Android & iOS, plus you can install it using the steps shared here to play on Mac or Windows.
Despite being a soft launch, it has all the makings of a great MMORPG. Unlike more recent releases from the Warhammer universe, this release takes players back to the Old World realm. You’ll have a chance to explore a vast open game world with stunning 3D graphics.
Your adventure takes place in Morrslieb, where the Chaos Moon looms in the sky, heralding the coming of evil forces. Brace yourself for epic battles in the trouble-stricken Drakwald Forest, save locals from goons terrorizing Rijkspoort, and interact with tons of NPS at the bustling port of Marienburg. Plenty more locations await your discovery.
Old School MMORPG Gameplay Mechanics
Although an increasing number of massively multiplayer online role-playing games offer automated combat, Warhammer: Odyssey gives players complete control. As a result, you have to use your combat tactics every time, making each hard-fought victory feel satisfying.
Besides the navigation controls, battle skills are on the right side of your screen. Some of them get disabled for a few moments with a cool-down effect. When playing Warhammer: Odyssey on your PC, you can use the keymapping features to assign on-screen controls to keyboard buttons.
Much of the time, you will be approaching NPCs to gather leads and take up quests to battle goblins, monsters, and all manner of savage foes. Your character gets EXP and levels up as you complete quests. There are plenty of treasures, items, and cargo crates to collect along the way.
Elaborate Character Class System
The characters you choose to go on quests in Warhammer: Odyssey can either be human, dwarf, or elf. Since ancient times, the three races have continued to work as allies, honoring pacts to stand against the darkness and chaos that threatens civilization.
Keep in mind, though, that there are six character classes. Each one also has two sub-classes to choose from, with a slight variation in their playstyle.
The Archmage is a ranged unit with magic abilities that either serves an offensive or supportive role. He can specialize into a healer to protect the entire party from sudden death, sometimes even resurrecting fallen allies, or as a destructive single-target and AOE caster with incredibly high damaging spells.
Next, there is the DPS Engineer class, a dwarf capable of holding its own in battle. Excellent DPS support units, Engineers work best with allies. Thanks to their assortment of defensive turrets, they can control the flow of clashes and adapt to situations at a moments’ notice.
Shadow Warriors are flexible fighters that use stealth, evasion, or critical strikes to defeat their enemies. Depending on the chosen sub-class, you can play them either as a blade-wielding assassin or a long-ranged archer.
If you prefer playing as a tank capable of taking enemy strikes and responding in kind as a melee combatant, the Slayer is the class within your forte. He builds up rage to become stronger and faster as battles continue.
You can also choose to play as the Warrior Priest, a healer that uses shouts and prayers to protect himself and his allies. Armed with a two-handed hammer, this class is also a melee tank.
Lastly, the Witch Hunter is the top DPS class, which excels both in solo play and within a group.
Tips & Tricks for Playing Warhammer: Odyssey MMORPG on PC
• Upgrade Your Characters
As you gain more EXP and level up your character, you also obtain stats points. You can then use them to boost hero abilities like weaponry skill, accuracy, wound healing, focus, leadership, and initiative. From the character stats page, you can tap and see how each ability affects your hero. There is also an auto-assign function on the page. Clicking it will distribute your stats points evenly according to your character class.
• Invest in Healing Resources
In Warhammer: Odyssey, there are two consumables that you can use to restore health and strength. Firstly, you can buy portions from traders at the auction house or collect them from drops if you are lucky. The good thing about this option is that you get instant recovery, as long as you don’t get hit during the process.
Secondly, food is another way to regenerate, but the effects are gradual. Additionally, it is much cheaper and easier to find compared to portions. You can buy food from the merchants.
• Charge Up Conviction
When fighting enemies, your character builds up conviction. What this does is enhance damage inflicted by the special skills. Using your normal attack three times in succession will build up the conviction charge that your hero requires to unleash lethal combos.
• Use the Bank for Extra Storage
Like in most MMORPGs, Warhammer: Odyssey gives only a limited number of slots in your backpack. If you run out of room to store your items, you can deposit them at the bank. It is a drop-off location in Rijkspoort that will come in handy when running low on inventory slots and you don’t feel like expanding them anymore.
