Oil Barron Simulator
Ever since the PC version of Turmoil released on Steam, the game has become quite popular. So much so that it is now available on mobile.
In this business simulation title, you get a taste of what it is like to be an oil baron. The game is inspired by the 19th-century oil rush in North America and is set in the Old West era.
When it comes to gameplay mechanics, everything is straightforward. First, you will lease a piece of land by outbidding other rivals at the town auction.
Next, you will search for oil using moles, scanners, and dowsers, then set up rigs and drill an efficient network of pipes to pump the precious commodity to the ground. You also deploy horse wagons to haul it to selling stations or store the oil in silos and wait for the right time to sell when the price is right.
If you are lucky enough to hit natural gas pockets, there is even more money to be made. But, each round will only last for a limited period. Therefore, you have to make the most out of your parcel of land before the lease ends.
Turmoil is a management strategy game at its core. You have to make all these little decisions to rake in the highest return on investment.
To start earning oil money, you begin by investing in finding the product, setting up a rig, drilling the pipes, and deploying wagons. It doesn’t end there. You will also have to determine the best upgrades to help you make more money.
For instance, do you upgrade the capacity of your horse wagons or increase the size of the herd? Will it be more rewarding to improve the dowsing rod depth to find deeper oil pockets or upgrade the speed for dowsers to find oil faster?
There are over a dozen tools and upgrades to make that will improve your oil drilling operations. So, what strategies will you come up with to rake in maximum profits?
The fun part about playing the Android or iOS versions of Turmoil is that you can try out features that were not available in the original PC release. Besides an entirely new campaign, the mobile installment comes with challenging twists. For instance, you will now have to worry about hitting dangerous magma underground while drilling for oil.
There are also extra bonuses that diversify the gameplay. For example, sell exhumed artifacts in the village for profit or play cards at the saloon to earn even more money.
If you are not new to Turmoil, installing the mobile versions on your PC with an emulator is a great way to play it how you are used to with a keyboard and mouse.
Tips & Tricks for Playing Turmoil on PC
• Use the Scanner
Once you unlock the scanner, make sure to keep using it as your preferred tool to find oil. Although costly, this is the best way to find oil in Turmoil.
Unlike the dowsers, the scanner can locate more than one pocket. If you scan the right spot, you will also find those lying deeper in the ground where the dowsers can’t reach.
• Avoid Spillage
When wagons stay too long at the oil rig, you will see a tiny timer clock warming you that spillage is about to happen. You want to avoid this because you get slapped with a fine for spilling oil. When you see the warning, fast forward the wagons before any spillage happens.
• Upgrade Piping to Big Puddles
Sometimes you will discover large pockets of oil after scanning underground. It is more worthwhile to upgrade the pipeline to such puddles.
By making the pipe wider, the amount flowing up to the ground will increase. Remember that you have a clock to beat. Therefore, use this tip to get all the toil from the big pockets before time runs out.
• Branch Out to New Puddles
Another tip to remember when playing Turmoil is that you have the option to extend existing pipelines. This will come in handy after discovering new oil pockets deeper in the ground. Ideally, try to branch out from the nearest pockets which have drained completely.
