A Vast Open World to Explore
With no main storyline, Runescape lets players define their own adventures. Your character will traverse a vast open world. The game is set in the mythical medieval fantasy world of Gelinor. Players use a mini-map to guide their character through different towns, cities, kingdoms and Islands. From the Tutorial Island, the game drops you in the hometown of Lumbridge. From here, you begin different lore-based quests. Successful completion of the task at hand will earn you quest points. But, to take part in these quests, first, you must acquire skills. These are player attributes that involve fishing, trading, cutting wood, fire making, mining, slaying monsters, among other activities.
When playing Old School Runescape on PC or mobile, you will interact a lot with non-player characters (NPCs). You cannot attack NPCs. However, players can hold dialogues with these computer controlled characters. From bankers to store owners to civilians, there are all kinds of NPCs in the game. To identify these special characters, you will see their names highlighted in yellow on the mini-map. They perform predefined functions like giving out information on quests or selling items. Other NPCs are just there for conversation. They help to bring out the British humor that OSRS is known for and set the game’s witty atmosphere.
