Massive Open-World Adventure Game
Genshin Impact is a layered open-world, RPG, adventure game that comprises of multiple concepts. One half of the gameplay consists of an intense battle scene that has you compete in quests (and mini-quests), complete daily events, and clear dungeons. The other half is more laid back, requiring you to form battle parties, level up your heroes, forge weapons, cook HP-boosting meals, and craft items.
The action centers on twin (boy & girl) travelers who drift into Teyvat (a vast world overflowing with elemental energy) from another realm. The pair get ambushed by an evil god who strips them of their power, traps one, and puts the other into a deep slumber. You will take on the role of the latter twin, with the game giving you the option of going as either the female or male character.
With the game objective set towards finding your twin, your character will traverse across the lush landscapes of Teyvat. There is plenty to do. First, you must seek answers from The Seven (elemental gods) statutes. Along the way, you will acquire elemental powers, face endless enemies, pick up tons of friends, and uncover the story of this fantasy world. You will have control over your twin character as well as any ally you pick up along the way.
Combat Features an Elemental System
Genshin Impact takes on the style of utilizing unique systems for just about every aspect of play. On the side of combat, the game employs an elemental system where characters feature skills based on one of the seven elements.
Your primary character draws his/her powers from Anemo, the god of wind. The character’s skills include fighting with a sword as well as releasing both concentrated and swirling shots of wind.
Other characters draw their powers from Pyro, the god of Fire, Cryo, the god of Frost, Electro, the god of Lightning, Hydro, the god of Water, Dendro, the god of Nature, and Geo, the god of Earth.
The game’s combat mechanics allow you to form fighting parties of 4, which you can switch between during battle. You do this by tapping on character portraits that appear on the right side of the screen. Following the game’s set storyline will have you collect Amber, Kaeya, and Lisa early on in the game and form your first team alongside your main character.
You will obtain more players as the plot progresses, but the game also utilizes a gacha system where you can pull more heroes by spending primogens (the game’s premium currency).
During combat, you can combine different elemental attacks to deal more damage to the enemy. For example, unleashing a pyro attack when it is raining results in vaporize damage, whereas quickly following a Dendro attack with a Pyro move triggers burning that continues to deal damage until the flames die out. A Cryo attack, on the other hand, reacts with lightning to unleash super-conduct damage, while ice reacts with water to create frozen status. There are plenty more possible elemental combo attacks that you can discover by experimenting with various hero pairs.
Cooking & Crafting Systems also Featured
As you are exploring the massive open world of Genshin Impact, you will come across all manner of things, including flowers, mushrooms, eggs, and fruits. As odd as these items appear to be, they all go into your inventory where you can use them to prepare food or level up particular players.
In some cases, you will come across complete dishes or wild animals you can kill for meat. Raw ingredients cook over an open fire (available throughout the extensive land). In contrast, you consume ready-made meals by heading over to the Inventory button at the screen’s top right corner (next to a character leveling button) and scrolling down to the ‘food’ menu.
Also featured are crafting systems for combining weapon pieces to forge powerful weapons and a crafting table for brewing potions. The potions last for about 5 minutes and have various effects. At first, you get to craft attack and defense potions that work to boost your heroes’ elemental damage and fortify your defense against an element. Later on, you will be able to craft potions for transforming spoils from battle into their higher-tier variants.
Trips & Tricks for Playing Genshin Impact on PC
• Follow the Storyline but Explore
You need to follow the storyline of Genshin Impact. It takes you from one stage to another, helping you understand the game’s world better. Playing through the story campaign is also the fastest way to collect allies without depleting your primogens.
But even as you follow the game’s prescribed route of play, you should also take the time to explore as much of the game’s massive world as you can. It holds many advantages and hidden secrets. So, look out for shiny spots, climb to high points to scout treasures, break crates, open chests, follow Seelies, and talk to every NPC you encounter. In addition to that, stop to interact with or attack any odd thing (e.g., a blob of water on dry land, oddly-shaped rocks, and landmarks, teleport waypoint) you encounter as it most likely holds something worthwhile. Generally, go where your eyes take you and do not be afraid to wander off from the course of a quest. The game has a ‘return to quest point’ button you can tap on when you feel you have done enough exploring.
• Maintain Different Elemental Powers with all Fighting Parties
When forming your battle parties, make sure that all four characters in all teams wield a different elemental power. For instance, one team can comprise of pyro, hydro, electro, and cryo characters, and another feature Geo, Dendro, Electro, and pyro heroes. Never have two of the same elements in one team. It is essential to do this because you can take advantage of the game’s style of combining elemental attacks and become virtually unbeatable in battles.
• Strike Hard and Fast in Battles
The monsters in this game are tough to beat and ruthless in their attacks. So, go straight for the kill before the enemy even has a chance to strike. One way to do this is first sending a long-ranged attacker to deal some damage before your other fighters come in.
Alternatively, you can direct attacks to an enemy’s head/weak points, unleash a series of elemental burst attacks, explode barrels next to the enemy, and even put more power behind an attack by scaling to high areas. Every time you deal damage or eliminate an enemy, the game releases elemental orbs that go towards replenishing a character’s energy.
It is also prudent to switch out heroes frequently, especially those with opposing elemental attacks. Doing this will allow you to deal maximum damage to the enemy while also preventing the burn out of your heroes.
• Always Replenish HP a Battle
Finally, keep in mind that your characters’ HP drops the most during a fight. Therefore, you should get into the habit of restoring HP after every battle. This can be done by visiting one of the seven statutes, leveling up a hero character, or simply consuming delicious meals. The latter is the easiest to do, so make sure you always have ready dishes available or at least the ingredients to cook.
