How to play Dota Underlords on PC (3 Easy Steps):
Unique Auto-battler Game
For the longest time, fighting/battle games required players to learn a series of moves and work on perfecting their combat skills. Lately, though, there has been a shift in this genre with auto-battler games breaking into the scene. Dota Underlords is one of those games that let you get in on this more laid-back style of play. The game features refined mechanics where battles play out automatically. You only arrange your heroes on 8 x 4 squares on a board and sit back to watch as they do battle with other live online players or AI game characters.
Another cool thing about the game is its plot. Gameplay takes place in White Spire, an underworld overrun by syndicates, gangs, and secret societies. Gambling, smuggling, crime, and loose morals are the norm in this city. However, despite the lawlessness, Momma Eeb, the city’s leader, had been operating a tight ship for years and managed to keep all residents, crime lords, and crews in line. However, after her murder, everything descended into chaos, and the spot for Big Boss opened up. That is where you come in as a player in the game. Fight your way through an array of Underlords and their cronies to rise to the position of ruler of White Spire.
Gameplay Spans 3 Stages
In the game, there are three stages of playing. You first pick your Underlords (also referred to as heroes) from a pool of 5, which changes every round or rotates randomly at the game’s discretion. From there, you can place your chosen champions on the board or bench them to play at a later round. The game has a brief tutorial at the beginning, which explains how to place units as well as how class bonuses work.
Choosing to place your heroes on the board enters you into the second stage of play, which is battling. Your army of warriors will fight automatically against those of another player’s. The round will continue until all heroes on your side or the opponents lose. The victorious team gets gold, health points, experience points, and other rewards. At the end of the fight, you can scoop bonuses such as summoning stone, aggressor brooch + 100% manna, Aegis of the immortal, and so much more.
At the battle stage, a collection of eight online players fight each other in several one-on-one rounds. So, once you complete your turn, you have to wait until all the other players finish their matches. Once that is over, the game will then take you back full circle to the recruiting stage where you get another pool of 5 characters to choose and fight against for extra rounds.
From Tank units and Melee heroes to Assassins, Rangers, Bodyguards, and more, Dota Underlords has 60 heroes, grouped into different classes based on their abilities and auto-attack style. To win, it is imperative that you create a strong army that can withstand the confrontation from opponents. The best way to do this is to include alliances when arranging heroes on the board for battle.
Every character in the game belongs to 2 or 3 different alliances. Having a couple of heroes or more from the same alignment on your board comes with an advantage. Using the in-game guide, you can learn all about the different Underlords and what alliances they can form.
Get Started with a Nice Offline Solitaire Mode
Dota Underlords is a rather complicated game. Mastering how to pair up characters and form a solid alliance is an art in itself. There is a lot more to learn if you want to become adept at this game. That includes knowing how to place units on the board and upgrading your heroes as well as understanding the art of selling or using items & rewards.
Moreover, save for the brief tutorial, the game throws you right into the deep end, pitting you against experienced online players. Fortunately, there is a Solo Bot Mode, which is what you should go for if you are a first-time player. It features four levels, namely easy, medium, challenging, and hardcore, which have no bearing on the game. The solo mode is an excellent place to hone your skills before you face real players in multiplayer fights.
Tips and Tricks for Playing Dota Underlords on PC
- Upgrade Your Heroes
From the very start of the game, you should focus on upgrading your heroes. That will require getting three heroes of the same star level, after which you can level up a character to the next tier. Continually upgrading Underlords will allow you to reach top range heroes quickly. Doing so will put you far ahead of other players in terms of battle readiness.
- Save up Gold to Earn Interest
Gold is everything in this game. It is what you will use to level up, acquire new heroes, get experience points, as well as re-roll the dice to get a better range of heroes to purchase. Luckily, gold is relatively easy to come by. You will earn gold by playing rounds, getting into winning or losing streaks, getting certain items, and incurring interest. The latter option makes the easiest and fastest way to stack up on gold.
The game has a 10% interest system where you earn one gold interest for every 10 in your possession before the start of a battle. The gains are rounded down to the nearest whole figure. So, if you have 19 gold going in, the interest will only be one gold. Similarly, the return on investment will be two gold for possession of between 20 – 29 gold; 3 gold interest in the 30s range, and so on. The maximum benefit stands at five gold, which means anything above 50 gold possession will only earn you 5-gold interest. For this reason, always ensure you have at least 50 gold in your bank at all times. You can use the rest as earned to upgrade heroes and make other purchases that will advance your game.
- Keep Weaker and Valuable Players Away From the Line of Fire
Since battles are automatic, positioning your players is an essential play strategy that will determine whether you win or lose a round. Given that the tanky heroes can take a beating, they should take positions at the front and weaker ones relegated to the back. It is a straightforward play move that helps prevent the more vulnerable heroes from getting wiped off the board fast in a fight. t
Keeping assassin players at the back also works out for the better. These units can leap behind enemy lines, and as such, have a big bull’s eye on their head. The opposing side will try to neutralize your assassin heroes fast hence the need to keep them protected at the back of the line. With continued play, you will be able to learn the strengths and weaknesses of all players and therefore come up with your very own positioning strategies that will yield wins.
- Lose a Few Rounds
Dota Underlords is a game of firsts. Battles are automated, game currency earns interest, and losing can be advantageous. Yes, as crazy as it sounds, intentionally throwing a few rounds on occasion will work to increase your gold stockpile. The trick is to follow losing rounds with a winning streak.
